About

Welcome to the I Am EM-Powered Program and Student Challenge. Exciting programs both for grades 4-8 and 9-12. These programs are fully funded by PSEG Long Island and free to Long Island and Rockway educators and students.

The 4-8 grade program includes three lessons incorporated into an educator and student guide, a Tips Page on “How to Create a Public Service Announcement” and a Student Video PSA Challenge. These lessons are cross-curricular and can be effectively used in Science, Social Studies and ELA classes. This past year technology educators have embraced the curriculum and shared it across the grades.

I Am EM-Powered (IAE) program for 9- 12 grade is designed to empower high school students to research and identify environmental issues and solutions to problems facing Long Island, Rockaway and the surrounding geographic region. They will research environmental organizations and their work and, then create a Public Service Announcement (PSA). The PSA will educate and advocate for an environmental issue or promote the work of a local environmental group that is making a difference to preserve our world for the future.

We are excited to work with you and your students. They will learn about energy efficiency, protecting the environment and they will inspire others to do the same.

We have provided a Student Guide that can be downloaded from the program website. These resources can be posted on your district’s Learning Management System and students can continue (or begin) their work from home. Whether you are just getting started with the program or well on your way, we have compiled some tips to help you implement the lessons in any setting. Distance Learning – We have created a Distance Learning Guide to assist you with integration.

At the end of the project, you will select the three (3)  best Public Service Announcement Videos (PSAs) from each of your participating classes and submit them to our Student Challenge. Tips for Creating a PSA will help students prepare their submission.

Student Challenge:

  • Participating schools throughout Long Island and the Rockaways are eligible to enter the challenge.
  • PSA Videos must be submitted by May 10, 2024.
